Superintendents and building principals are systems leaders, but only one of them runs the show.

Clashes can occur over initiative fatigue, proper support, poor modeling, and much more. If conflicts aren’t managed skillfully, strain can build up over time, pushing the relationship to a breaking point and creating bigger issues.

How can superintendents and principals build better relationships?

Join Peter DeWitt, principal Taneka Tate, and superintendents Farris Sabah and Michael R. Cornell as they discuss the critical role that relationship-building plays in creating a well-run district and school where students and staff can thrive.

Speakers
Michael R. Cornell
Superintendent of Schools, Hamburg Central School District (N.Y.)
Michael Cornell is the superintendent for the Hamburg Central School District in New York. He also serves as the president of the Erie-Niagara School Superintendents Association and is the co-chair of the New York State Council of School Superintendents Legislative Committee. An award-winning educator, Cornell has also worked as a principal.
Faris Sabbah was raised in Iraq and Ecuador before coming to the United States for his higher education degrees in psychology, education, and educational equity. An educator for 30 years, Sabbah has served an instructional aide, teacher, university professor, and as a school, district, and county office administrator. In 2018, he was elected as the Santa Cruz county superintendent. In order to disrupt inequitable practices and uplift student voice, he believes that education should be about serving the whole child.
Taneka Tate is a Fort Smith, Ark., native focused on educating today’s youth and adult learners. Over the past 15 years, she has worked as a teacher, math coach, literacy/math interventionist, assistant principal, and principal. Through countless opportunities, Tate has a proven record of supporting student success through inclusion, innovative learning experiences through multiple technologies, integrated and cohesive curriculum, and student voice and choice.
